The founder, Tibor Gál Sr. was one of Hungary’s best known winemakers abroad, having overseen a series of blockbusting vintages of Ornellaia in Tuscany for Lodovico Antinori. He created the Ornellaia Super Toscan cuvee in 1998, which was ranked the first on the list of top 100 wines by the Wine Spectator magazine later in 2001. He worked as a consultant for Ornellaia, Aia Vecchia Wineries in Tuscany, Roncaia Winery of Friuli and Barbara Incisa Winery in Piemont and Capaia in Stellenbosch.
He established his winery in 1993 at the time, when Eger was recultivating all of its land, gearing up for today’s quality wine making. Tibor chose the very best locations for his vineyards, planting 40 hectares of grapes in the Eger region over a period of five years.
Tibor Gál Jr took over the management , continuing and evolving the family business philosophy and passion for producing regional wines of exceptional quality.
He is the visionary behind the creation of a contemporary wine character that derives from the past. His aim is to make more focused terroir based wines of the region. To create terroir selected benchmark blends of the region both in white /Egri Csillag/; and red /Egri Bikavér/ complex, elegant and sophisticated expressions of the Eger Wine region. Tibor Gál Jr and his family continues the legacy of their father with modern technology, and contemporary style and thinking.
